Week 22, 2013: Flooding

And the rain, rain, rain came down, down, down in rushing rising rivets. Til the river crept out of its bed and crept right into Piglets….
7It’s been raining almost nonstop for the past week or two (at least) and being from Florida I was like, “Whatever. Looks like we brought the weather with us when we moved.” Unfortunately, there’s this big river in the middle of Prague that’s been flooding like crazy. It’s to the point where you almost can’t see the arches under the bridges. Charles Bridge has been closed to the public so cranes can scoop up large debris that floats down the river. There’s been an evacuation of central Prague and the public transportation has come to a standstill with almost all of the northern and central metro stops closed to prevent flooding (although most of them have flooded anyway). These storms have also caused serious flooding in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
1The hubs and I didn’t even realize that there was a state of emergency until we went grocery shopping yesterday. We took the tram over a bridge on the Vltava and we were amazed by how high the river was. Walkways along the side of the river were completely underwater with many of the islands being overwhelmed. Thankfully, reports say the worst of it hit this morning and the forecast for the rest of the week is sunny with little to no chance of rain.
